External Quality Assurance: (EQAS)
|
In order to maintain the quality of the laboratory services being provided through ICTCs & Blood Banks, EQAS is followed. In Orissa there are three State Reference Laboratories (SRLs) namely, the Microbiology departments of SCB Medical College, Cuttack; MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, Ganjam & VSS Medical College of Burla, Sambalpur. The SRLs supply samples of unknown sera to cross check testing at the ICTCs and Blood Banks. This is done twice a year. HIV Testing Centers also send all HIV+ve samples, all indeterminate samples and 5% of all HIV_ve samples to the corresponding SRLs as part of EQAS.
EQAS form an important part of the monitoring component for testing centres, so do indices like ratio between numbers counseled versus tested, HIV positivity rates, etc.
